Shutter Speed Assignment

In college i completed a module called 'The Light Movement', this module included working with the shutter speed settings on your camera to create images of light graffiti, i loved doing this and created some great images which we then had to make into an advert to go around Manchester to advertise 'The Light Movement' (a made up event). During this module i did a lot of indepth research into light graffiti photographers for example Micahael Bosanko etc, one of my favourite photographers that i found was Eric Staller, i loved how his images created three dimensional light graffiti and to make his images have more depth he had backgrounds to his images instead of them being just black.

One of my favourite images of his is this image below...

I particularly like this image because out the interesting use of light, it draws you in as the light comes from the centre of the image outwards and fills the foreground.

Below i have experimented with slow shutter speeds and light to create these interesting light movement images, for all the images below i used an aperture of F/4.5 and a shutter speed of 4 seconds...

all the images below have had no editing on photoshop

Depth Of Field Assignments - Assignment 3

Foreground V's Background

Here i experimented with focus, rangeing from focusing on the foreground and vise versa...

For this image i used as lower aperture as possible and got close to the object, this created a shallow depth of field, with the object in focus and the background blurred.

I used the same principle as the above image for this image, i think these worked really well, i love how crisp the image is.

For this image i used an aperture of F/5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/30 sec, i feel the composition of this image is really interesting, with the spider in focus and the background blurred but you can still faintly see the web which brings a 3D feel to the image.

To produce this image i used an aperture of f/5.6 and a shutter speed of 1/30, the layers in this image give it depth, the background (leaves) are very blurred, the middle ground (web) is faint and the foreground (spider) is in focus.

I tried to produce a large depth of field in this image below, as there are more than one main object being photographed i wanted all of the flowers to be in focus not just the orchid, i achieved this by using a small aperture of F/11, i moved away from the subject and zoomed out and a shorter focal length.

Here i adjusted the focus so that the crayons were blurred and the background was in focus.

I experimented by now trying to get the closest crayon to the lens in the foreground out of focus and as the crayons get further away they get in more focus.

Depth Of Field Assignments- Assignment 1

Today i have been experimenting with several functions on my Nikon D3100, after having a briefing on all the functions i felt a lot more confident to go out and experiment with the camera. The images i produced were reflective and inspired by the brief i was given.

The images to follow are from experimenting with aperture, shutter speeds and depth of field.

Firstly i experimented with aperture,by using the same shutter speed of 1/80 and simply changing the aperture i produced these images...

F/5

F/6.3

F/7.1

F/9

F/10

F/11

By doing these excersises i learnt that by increasing the aperture you lower the amount of light coming through the lens.
